Esquel is located in the north-west of Chubut province, about 400 miles away from its capital city and 1,270 miles from Buenos Aires, at a latitude of 42º54’35″ south and at a longitude of 71º18’38″ west. Surrounded by ranges up to 6,000? high, Esquel stands at 1,700? m above sea level. And with its 32,000 inhabitants it is the largest town in the mountain area of Chubut.
